Water: The Two-Edged Sword

Water can be a two-edged sword: not enough and you can die, too much and you can die. Some of you may already know about the massive flooding that has covered the Pacific northwest last week; however, many of you may not have heard about it since the media coverage has been surprisingly small.

One report said that there has never been flooding this bad in that area in recorded history. It is just as if a major hurricane had hit, the
damage is so bad. Katrina bad. Countless homes have been destroyed, freeways closed, grocery stores emptied, and businesses devastated. Preliminary damage has been estimated at $125 million.

Needless to say, much of the drinking water has been compromised. If any of you live near or have the financial means to help, please consider going there to help with the cleanup. It will begin as
soon as the waters recede.

The flooding is in many areas from an hour north of Seattle, east over the Cascades, all the way down south past Olympia to the the Chehalis valley. This is a huge area with a fairly high population density. Those poor people in Chehalis just got done recovering from last year's flood and they just lost it all again! I-5 has over 10 feet of water over it and 20 miles of it are closed down. Also closed is 1-5 between Federal Way and Tacoma and all major highways that run east to west over the Cascades. Parts of Oregon has also received its share of the damage.

You'll be happy to know that Multi-Pure is introducing our Emergency Preparedness kit at the end of this month. (I'll give you more details about it later.) Every family needs to put "Be Prepared" at the top of their list of 2009 New Year's resolutions! Every adult and child should have an emergency backpack of some kind that includes food, water and a few key items to help weather the storms that come, whatever they may be.
