I went to college in Spain, so I can't let the weekend go by without commenting on the World Cup finals! Of course, you know who I'll be rooting for. Viva Espana!
People in the good ole USA never used to pay much attention to the World Cup, but now that we have a decent team, American heads are starting to turn to the TV to watch that soccer ball spin.
For those of you who will be watching the big game on Sunday at home or in a bar, I thought I'd share some helpful phrases you can say to the other viewers in the room in order to sound intelligent:
* Que viva Espana!
* Hup Holland Hup! Laat de leeuw niet in zijn hempie staan. (Just in case Spain doesn't win.) It means "Go Holland Go. Don't let the lion lose its shirt."
* Did you know that the first stanza of the Dutch national anthem still speaks about how William of Nassau, one of the Oranje forefathers, pledges lifelong loyalty to the King of Spain? It's true, and I'll bet Spain is hoping for such acquiescence on Sunday.
* No thanks....I don't drink beer....I drink Multi-Pure water! Would you like to know more? I could even get you a free unit for your home with Multi-Pure's special Filtermania program! You simply have to purchase a few filter cartridges in advance and you get the drinking water system free! That's a $399.95 value! Hey, I'll even throw in a free shower filter! Ask me how!
Enjoy the game!
