arsenic

This article was just posted in our local paper- referring to an area we are moving to in 6 days. What do you know about arsenic? Does Multi-pure address it?

Port Washington — The Ozaukee County Public Health Department is advising private well owners to have their wells tested for arsenic.

In a news release, county Environmental Health Specialist Dan Ziegler says tests conducted this spring showed that varying levels of arsenic were present in well water throughout the county.

According to county tests, 167 wells throughout the county were tested from April 2 to June 2, all of which tested positive for arsenic. Of those, 24 had levels that exceed the 10 parts per billion standard set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, according to test results on the county's Web site.

In the Town of Cedarburg, where 70 wells were tested, 20 wells exceeded the EPA standard, the report said. In Mequon, where 46 wells were tested, two had higher levels.

Arsenic is a poisonous substance that can be found in soil and rock and under certain conditions can be released into ground water. The risk of contracting cancer increases along with the presence of arsenic, Ziegler said, citing EPA statistics.

Municipalities routinely test their drinking water for the presence of contaminants, but private well owners are responsible to do their own testing, Ziegler said. He said private wells should be tested at least once every five years.

Arsenic

In a word, YES!!! Multi-Pure most definitely addresses arsenic! In fact, Multi-Pure offers several drinking water systems that reduce arsenic for you to choose from.

There are two forms of arsenic: pentavalent arsenic (also called Arsenic 5) and trivalent arsenic (Arsenic 3). In well water, arsenic may be one or the other or even both.

Specially formulated carbon block systems, such as Multi-Pure, are very effective at removing pentavalent arsenic. A free chlorine residual will rapidly convert trivalent arsenic to pentavalent arsenic, so if you're using tap water that has been treated by your city then your arsenic 3 is probably being converted automatically into arsenic 5.

Our Multi-Pure MP 880 system has been specially designed to remove Arsenic 5, as well as our reverse osmosis system. You can read more about them and see their spec sheets at www.multipureco.com/specsheets.htm

Arsenic IS a poisonous substance, so if you would to protect your family and have peace of mind, then you'll definitely want to use a Multi-Pure filter on your water! Multi-Pure reduces the widest range of contaminants on the market today based on NSF testing and certifications!
