Planet Earth and Multi-Pure

Multi-Pure Corporation was “green” long before it was fashionable to be so! For 40 years Multi-Pure has manufactured drinking water systems that help provide solutions to environmental problems such as plastic water bottles, harmful contaminants, and the careless waste of precious resources. We’re proud of the “green” products we manufacture, using materials that are biodegradable and come from renewable resources.
THE PROBLEM: Individual use of plastic water bottles has become a multi-billion dollar industry. Not only is bottled water much more expensive than tap water, but there is also a serious cost to our planet:
- 1.5 million barrels of oil are used annually to manufacture plastic water bottles. (Earth Policy Institute)
- 2 million tons of plastic bottles are land filled every year. (Worldwatch Institute)
- Only 1 out of every 10 plastic bottles is recycled.
- Bottled water has to either be pumped out of the ground or treated. Up to 1500 gallons of water are wasted during this process.
- Bottled water uses fossil fuels in the making, filling, transporting, and recycling of plastic water bottles…up to 187 gallons of oil are spent! To learn more about this process, check out “The Story of Bottled Water” at www.storyofstuff.org/bottledwater.php
- 1 billion pounds of CO2 is emitted in the transportation of bottled water in the United States alone.
- 40% of PET bottles recycled in the United States in 2004 were exported – adding to the resources used.
THE SOLUTION: 1 Multi-Pure water filter cartridge = 12,000 8oz plastic water bottles!
What happens when you throw away your old, used cartridge?
The used cartridge is actually GOOD for the landfills! It continues to absorb even more chemical pollutants in the ground.
Below are just a few more ways Multi-Pure is trying to reduce our carbon footprint here on planet Earth. Please join us in our efforts to protect our precious resource of water.
- Multi-Pure’s “Green Team”
Multi-Pure has created an executive “Green Team”, comprised of top distributors and corporate executives to discuss how the company can improve its own corporate culture and contribute to the greening solution in the world. To offer suggestions to the group or get more information about its ongoing projects, contact Kenton Jones at kjones@multipure.com

Multi-Pure drinking water systems are proudly displayed at the “Tree House” project located at 4065 Kraft Avenue, Studio City, CA 91604. Vision Development offered educational tours of the green home in 2009. The Tree House project was built in cooperation with the Southern California Gas Company as part of its Advanced Home Case Study Program. The house is registered for certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes and Build it Green’s Green Point Rated programs. It also serves as a Pilot Project for a new equivalency tool between the two programs. - National Environmental Education Week
Multi-Pure has been a proud sponsor of National Environmental Education Week for several years now and continues to educate consumers about the importance of clean water and how to get it for less. The theme for 2010 is “Be Water and Energy Wise.” To join Multi-Pure and EEWeek, register to be a partner at www.eeweek.org/register

Multi-Pure is a proud sponsor of the “Get Off The Bottle” Tour, presented by the producers of “Tapped the Movie”. Stephanie Soechtig’s debut feature is an unflinching examination of the big business of bottled water. The month-long bus tour encourages consumers to pledge to reduce their plastic bottle consumption. To learn more about the film and tour schedule go to www.tappedthemovie.com

The current law regulating toxic chemicals was passed in 1976. It hasn't changed since, even though 20,000 new chemicals have come onto the market since then. Babies are born pre-polluted with 300 industrial chemicals in their bodies when they enter the world. To join Multi-Pure and the Environmental Working Group in supporting legislation that protects children makes chemicals in consumer products kid-safe you can sign the “Kids- Safe Chemicals” petition at http://action.ewg.org/t/9231/tellafriend.jsp?tell_a_friend_KEY=4161

Press Media
Multi-Pure is committed to reducing our carbon footprint. Like any corporation, we print and use a lot of paper as we communicate with our distributors and customers, so we’ve found a way to do it in a way that threatens the environment less! Multi-Pure contracts with Press Media, a printer that uses 100% wind energy to offset the electrical power used in their facilities.
Over the course of one year, their wind power will displace 272 metric tons of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the environment. This equates to the equivalent of not driving 57 passenger cars or planting 245 acres of trees each year! Project EcoBrand is a social network whose goal is “Making green business and eco living relevant to everyday life.” Multi-Pure is an active member, participating in fun events like “Green Drinks” where other green companies mingle and discuss collaborative projects nationwide.
Project EcoBrand strongly supports and contributes to GreenProfs, a searchable database where green business professionals share articles, insights and best practice on the environment, corporate social responsibility and climate change. To learn more about these organizations go to:

Take Back the Tap pledge
Bottled water is not safer than tap water. In fact, the federal government requires far more rigorous and frequent safety testing and monitoring of municipal drinking water than it does for the bottled water industry. After millions of barrels of oil are used to produce and ship plastic water bottles, 90% of them land in the garbage or our waterways instead of the recycle bin!
You can sign the “Take Back the Tap” pledge sponsored by the Food and Water Watch organization and then encourage others to do the same!
You can submit your pledge online at:

Planet Green’s “Battleground Earth”
With a few exceptions, the hard-living, party-hearty, carbon-pumping world of rock ‘n roll excess doesn’t earn many green points. All of that changed when rocker Tommy Lee and rapper, Ludacris, aired their new show “Battleground Earth” on Planet Green for a 10-episode tour in 2008. Rock and rap battled toxic forces in a reality game-style show, trying to see which music star was more environmentally friendly. Multi-Pure played a part in their research for the episode about water!
Whenever anyone wants to find an expert in the drinking water industry, they find Multi-Pure! To read more about the TV show and who won (besides the earth), go to: http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/battleground-earth/
